The Catalan government has launched five new cultural, educational, and leisure services aimed at connecting Catalans living abroad with their homeland, the Department of European Union and External Action announced today, 11 October 2026.
The initiative, managed by the Generalitat's Directorate General for Catalonia Abroad, is designed to strengthen ties to Catalan language, culture, and territory for citizens residing outside Catalonia. Services are available to Catalans abroad, legally established Catalan associations overseas, schools, educational centres, families, and groups linked to the 'Catalunya Exterior' network.
Programmes include virtual reading clubs, cultural fan communities, and educational stays at youth hostels in the Xanascat network. These stays are open to schools and Catalan communities abroad, offering structured cultural experiences in Catalonia.
One of the offerings, Escapa't a la neu, provides winter stays in mountain locations including La Molina, Vall de Nuria, and Planoles (Girona). Activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding, with accommodation at Xanascat-managed hostels.
To access these services, individuals and groups must register in the Register of Catalans and Catalans Residing Abroad and sign up via the Tellfy app.
