Campsites in Catalonia's Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre regions secured over half of the prestigious ACSI Awards at the 2nd Catalonia Campsite Congress held in La Seu d'Urgell last Thursday, 16 April 2026. This significant achievement consolidates Tarragona province's leadership as a premier camping destination in Europe.

The awards, presented for the first time in Catalonia, saw establishments from the region win five out of nine categories. This performance positions Tarragona as the area with the highest concentration of such recognitions across Spain, according to L'Ebre Digital. The ACSI Awards are considered one of Europe's leading recognitions in the sector.

Specific winners from the Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre included Playa Montroig Camping Resort for "Best Sanitary Facilities", Càmping Ametlla in L'Ametlla de Mar for "Best Hiking Campsite", and Camping & Resort Sangulí Salou for "Most Beautiful Campsite Pool". Càmping Estanyet in Les Cases d'Alcanar was recognised as the "Most Dog-Friendly Campsite".

Additionally, three local establishments received 'honourable mentions': Tamarit Beach Resort, Càmping Joan, and Alannia Els Prats. These international awards are granted by the Dutch organisation ACSI, which specialises in inspecting and promoting campsites across Europe.

The ACSI Awards are unique as they are decided exclusively by the votes of campers, who rate their actual experiences at the establishments. For the 2026 edition, nearly 100,000 users from across Europe participated in the voting process, which took place between September 2025 and January 2026. This system makes the awards a direct indicator of quality and customer satisfaction, further enhancing the value of the accolades received by the Tarragona campsites.

Catalonia Becomes European Camping Hub

The decision to host the ACSI Awards ceremony for the first time in Catalonia, as part of the 2nd Catalonia Campsite Congress, underscores the region's growing prominence. This congress brought together professionals, businesses, and institutions from the sector to discuss future challenges and opportunities, further solidifying Catalonia, particularly Tarragona province, as a major European camping hub.

In parallel with the congress, the Catalonia Campsites Gala, organised by the Catalan Campsite Federation, also took place. During this event, Camping & Resort Sangulí Salou received a special recognition for its long-standing contribution to the sector's development and prestige.

Joan Estrada, president of the Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre Campsite Association, expressed great satisfaction with the results. He stated, "The ACSI awards are especially relevant because they directly reflect customer opinion. The fact that campsites in our province have won more than half of the categories confirms that we are the benchmark for camping quality in Spain and one of the main ones in Europe."

Estrada also highlighted the sector's continuous commitment, adding, "These recognitions are the result of the constant effort by entrepreneurs to invest in facilities, innovation, and sustainability, and to offer an excellent experience to campers. We will continue working to maintain this leadership."
