Cassà de la Selva, in Girona province, is hosting the ninth edition of its Cork Fair, known in Catalan as the Fira del Tap i el Suro. The weekend event includes around 40 activities and stalls along Passeig Vilaret, with a focus on the town’s link to the cork industry.

Friday’s programme included a cork stripping demonstration in the Can Villalonga cork oak forest, along with a breakfast for cork strippers. The fair also includes workshops linked to cork production and its uses.

The event is both cultural and economic for Cassà de la Selva. It highlights the traditional work of harvesting and processing cork, while also showing how the material is used in products made by local businesses and artisans.

Organisers say the fair is aimed at residents and visitors, with activities that help explain the path from forest to finished product. The stalls feature cork-based items such as bottle stoppers, decorative pieces and fashion accessories.

The main fair area on Passeig Vilaret is open throughout the weekend. The programme also includes tastings, cultural performances and children’s activities, making it a family-friendly event.

The fair is part of the wider local calendar in Girona province and continues to support the heritage of cork production in the Selva area. For more local coverage, see our news page.
