Train services on the R3 Rodalies line between Ripoll and Ribes de Freser, in Ripollès, were interrupted today, 13 June 2026, after an act of sabotage on the catenary system, according to ADIF, Spain's railway infrastructure manager. One train was left stranded on the tracks.
ADIF said on its X account that it shared four photographs showing damage to the railway infrastructure. Renfe, the train operator, confirmed that an investigation has started to clarify what happened.
To reduce disruption for passengers, an alternative bus service has been set up between the two affected stations. The interruption affects rail travel in the Ripollès area, with knock-on effects for people using the R3 corridor.
Separately, another train on the R11 line was stopped for a significant period because of a lack of tension in the catenary, affecting services between Figueres and Portbou in Alt Empordà. Tension was restored around midday, allowing trains to run on both tracks between Figueres and Llançà.
However, services on the R11 line remain limited to a single track between Llançà and Portbou. This has led to selective cancellations for some Mid-Distance trains and an estimated average delay of 15 minutes for passengers, according to ADIF on X.
