Emergency services in Roses, Girona, resumed their search on Saturday morning for a 16-year-old boy who went missing on Wednesday night during a guided jet ski tour. The operation was suspended on Friday night and then restarted in coordination with the Guardia Civil.
A helicopter from the Generalitat Fire Service is flying over the Cap de Begur area, scanning the coastline from the air. Teams are focusing on the stretch between Pals beach, where the jet ski was found, and the coast of Begur. At sea, the Guardia Civil is carrying out a maritime search, with specialist divers checking specific coastal points.
The jet ski the teenager was riding was found overturned on Pals beach on Friday, near the municipality of Begur. That was two days after the activity organisers reported that he had not returned with his group to Santa Margarida beach. The Generalitat Fire Service believes the boy may have lost his life jacket and sunk.
On Friday, emergency teams searched the coast on foot between L'Escala and L'Estartit. They also used drones around the Medes Islands. The discovery of the jet ski in Pals widened the search area southwards, although officials said marine currents can change and make it difficult to pinpoint the teenager's location.
The Generalitat Fire Service is working on the theory that the missing boy is in the water, either sunk or floating, according to its statements. For ongoing local coverage, see our news page.
