Tarragona is one of the Catalan locations linked to 33 Días, the new series by Carles Porta and directed by Anaïs Pareto, which premiered this Sunday on Atresplayer.
Part of the production was filmed in Tarragona’s former prison, alongside other locations. The series is inspired by the well-known case of Brito and Picatoste, two prisoners who escaped and stayed at large for 33 days.
The case led to a major police operation by the Mossos d’Esquadra, who remained on alert until the men were caught. The series uses the names Prieto and Calatrava for the two prisoners, giving the production room for creative freedom while keeping the case as its base.
José Manuel Poga and Julián Villagrán play the escaped prisoners. Anaïs Pareto said in an interview that the show “speaks of how far human beings are capable of going to feel loved.”
The production looks at the motivations of the main characters, as well as the social, political and police tensions around the case. It also includes Nausicaa Bonnín and Pau Durà as police agents.
33 Días is an Atresmedia production made with Luminol Media, Goroka and Lastor Media. It was filmed mostly in Castilian Spanish, with some parts in Catalan. Readers can follow more Catalonia-wide culture and news coverage on News and on our news tag page.
