Traffic will be restricted across numerous central Barcelona streets this Sunday morning, 11 May 2026, due to the El Corte Inglés Race. Organisers expect 50,000 runners, leading to significant mobility disruptions in the city.
The traffic restrictions will start early in the morning and continue until midday. The Eixample district, Diagonal avenue, and Passeig de Gràcia will be most affected. City officials recommend that residents avoid using private vehicles for travel in these areas.
Public Transport Changes
As a direct result of the road closures, 40 Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) bus lines will have their routes modified or be temporarily cancelled. TMB has set up a special information service on its website and social media channels. This allows users to check for disruptions and find alternative transport options.
This year marks the 30th edition of the race, a well-established sporting event in the city and one of Catalonia's largest. Organisers are asking for public cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the event and to keep inconvenience to a minimum.
The traffic situation is expected to return to normal around 14:00, once the race has finished and the main affected roads have reopened.
