In Barcelona and across the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), the Tarjeta Rosa offers reduced or free public transport for eligible residents, but the age and income rules vary by municipality.

According to the AMB, the pass is available to seniors, people with a disability of 33% or more, their companions, and people with limited financial resources. There are two versions, the free Tarjeta Rosa, which allows unlimited travel at no cost, and the reduced Tarjeta Rosa, which requires a T-4 card costing €2.25 for 10 journeys.

Income is one of the main factors. The free pass applies to people with annual gross family income per person up to €9,240, while the reduced pass applies to those with income up to €18,480. The age threshold also changes from one municipality to another across the 36-town AMB area.

Nine municipalities, including Badalona, Barcelona, Castelldefels, Cornellà, L’Hospitalet, El Prat, Sant Adrià, Sant Vicenç dels Horts and Santa Coloma de Gramenet, allow applications from age 60. Viladecans sets the age at 61, while Esplugues, Montgat, Sant Boi, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern and Tiana set it at 62. Gavà allows applications from 63, and 19 municipalities use the official retirement age of 65.

Companions of people with disabilities can also apply for a companion pass, and no income test is required for that option. For the reduced Tarjeta Rosa, the T-4 card can be bought at tobacconists, metro ticket machines, and through the TMB and AMB Mobilitat apps. Up to two T-4 cards, or 20 journeys, can be loaded at once, and each journey allows up to three transfers within 75 minutes from validation.

The Tarjeta Rosa is valid on the metro, urban and interurban buses, trams and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat. Rodalies services are not included. For official details, readers can check the AMB website and the TMB and AMB Mobilitat channels for ticketing information. AMB, TMB, AMB Mobilitat.

Outside the AMB, municipalities in the second ring that have not had access to the Tarjeta Rosa are due to launch a new T-Social pass in the first quarter of 2027. The Association of Municipalities for Mobility and Urban Transport (AMTU) says around 70,000 people in about 20 participating municipalities could benefit. The first towns named for the scheme include Granollers, Sabadell, Terrassa, Mollet, Rubí, Sant Quirze del Vallès, La Roca del Vallès, Les Franqueses del Vallès, Igualada, Vilafranca del Penedès, Sitges and Vic.
