Barcelona City Council has presented an ambitious urban strategy for Ciutat Vella, aiming to connect the Raval neighbourhood with the sea through a new urban axis. This project, set to extend until 2035, seeks to revitalise the area.

Officials said the plan could create "a space of quality, normality and life" in an area that currently "seems like the backyard of Raval". The initiative focuses on improving public spaces and enhancing connectivity within the historic district.

Transforming Ciutat Vella

The strategy looks to transform the urban fabric of Ciutat Vella, making it more accessible and integrated. The new axis will provide a direct link from the heart of Raval to the coastline, a connection that has long been absent. This development is expected to benefit residents by offering improved public amenities and a more pleasant environment.

The council's vision for 2035 includes not only the physical connection but also a broader regeneration of the area, addressing current challenges and promoting a higher quality of urban life.
