Barcelona police made 13 arrests and issued 15 administrative fines on Friday, 13 June 2026, during a large operation aimed at tackling the spread of firearms in the city.
The joint action involved Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Urbana, the National Police and private security, with around 150 officers taking part. Checks and inspections ran from 2pm to 10pm in areas identified as higher risk, including Sants-Montjuïc, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí.
The operation came amid concern over recent shootings in Barcelona. In Sants-Montjuïc, near Mineria street in Zona Franca, two people died from gunshot wounds in the past month. Earlier this week, a man was killed by a gunshot to the head on Balmes street in upper Barcelona.
Police sources said the 13 arrested people had 93 prior police records between them. One person was also investigated for breaching a court order. Officers said the aim was to find illegal weapons, identify people linked to criminal activity and increase police presence in areas affected by violence.
Alongside the arrests, officers issued 15 administrative reports for drug possession or weapons offences. Police have not ruled out further operations in the coming weeks as part of efforts to reduce the circulation of weapons across Barcelona.
