Barcelona’s Pantalla BDC summer film series will bring 45 free outdoor cinema sessions to 13 locations across the city’s civic centre network from 25 June to 23 July 2026.

The 16th edition is an initiative of the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB), in collaboration with the Gaudí Cycle. The Barcelona City Council says the screenings are free and do not require prior booking.

The programme includes nine films, among them Molt lluny (Very Far Away) by Gerard Oms, Wolfgang by Javier Ruiz Caldera, and Los Tortuga (The Turtles) by Belén Funes. All films will have subtitles, and most will also include AudescMobile, a mobile app that provides audio descriptions for visually impaired viewers.

The 2026 selection focuses on recent Catalan cinema and stories rooted in everyday life. It combines comedy and drama around themes such as precarity, identity, grief, family and human relationships, with an emphasis on intimate and humanist storytelling.

Other titles in the line-up include L'àvia i el foraster (The Grandmother and the Stranger), La furgo (The Van), Norberta, Un lugar común (A Common Place), Una quinta portuguesa (A Portuguese Farm) and Un sol radiant (A Radiant Sun). The programme also includes films that have been awarded or shown at festivals such as Málaga, Toronto and Alicante.

Last summer, more than 6,000 people attended Pantalla BDC screenings across 13 locations, including Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, Plaça del Rei and the gardens of Vil·la Florida. This year’s participating civic centres are CC Pati Llimona, CC Ateneu Fort Pienc, CC Cotxeres de Sants, CC Josep Maria Trias i Peitx, CC Vil·la Florida, CC La Sedeta, CC Casa Groga, CC Can Basté, CC Zona Nord, CC Can Clariana Cultural, CC La Sagrera, La Barraca and the Auditori de Sant Martí.

DJ Dani Kongo will again provide a music selection inspired by each film, available on Spotify during the cycle. More information is available on the Barcelona Culture website and the Catalan News tag page.
