Barcelona City Council has opened a new Zone Green Point in La Marina, in the Sants-Montjuïc district, moving the Montjuïc recycling centre from Carrer del Foc to Carrer de Motors 88. The site began operating on 1 June 2026 and is intended to improve waste management and environmental awareness for residents and businesses.
The new centre has an outdoor area with direct access from Motors Street and an indoor space for environmental education activities. The council says workshops, talks and other initiatives will be held there to help people dispose of waste correctly. The facility is part of the city’s Climate Plan and supports the Zero Waste Plan.
Although it is designed with commercial and service sectors in mind, private residents can still use it free of charge to drop off bulky waste. The relocation is also part of a wider reorganisation of land in the Zona Franca area.
Barcelona currently has 134 Green Points across three types, Zone Green Points, Neighbourhood Green Points and Mobile Green Points. The city says the network gives residents nearby places to dispose of household waste that cannot go in street containers. More on local coverage can be found on our news page.
The council says the network helps reduce unrecoverable waste and supports reuse and recycling. Items collected at Green Points can be prepared for reuse by social organisations or sent for recycling through specialist managers. The city also says the facilities are clean, safe and free from odours or noise.
In 2025, Green Points collected waste that was 87% recyclable, 9% for reuse and 4% managed as special waste. Between November 2022 and May 2026, the council also distributed 96,627 bins, 150,780 three-colour bags, 103,089 recycling guides and 27,167 informative magnets to improve household waste separation across Barcelona.
