Barcelona metro passengers will face several service changes this summer as Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and the Catalan government carry out upgrades across L1, L3, L4 and L9/L10 Nord. The works are being scheduled during the period of lower passenger numbers, but they will still affect key journeys across the city.
On L1, the section between Florida and Plaça de Sants will close from 17 July to 28 August for a full track renewal between Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou. The project, budgeted at €11.5 million, also includes work on track equipment at Santa Eulàlia. Passengers can use L9 and L10 Sud at Torrassa, L5 at Plaça de Sants, and connections with FGC at Avinguda Carrilet and Rodalies at Rambla Just Oliveras.
TMB will run an alternative bus service for the affected L1 section, with buses every 4 to 9 minutes on weekdays, 5 to 10 minutes on Saturdays, and 6 to 11 minutes on Sundays. The service will use 18 articulated buses on weekdays, 13 on Saturdays and 11 on public holidays, and will operate during metro hours. An information campaign starts on 10 July, with staff present at more than 15 points across the network.
L9/L10 Nord will also be affected by shaft works linked to the future central section of the line. From 25 June to 30 August, the section between La Sagrera and Onze de Setembre will close, then from 31 August to 6 September the closure will extend to Bon Pastor. The Catalan government's Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition is funding the €22.6 million project.
For this section, passengers can change at Fondo for L1 and at Gorg for L2. Regular bus lines H8, 34 and 126 also serve the route. TMB will operate an alternative bus service during the first phase, with buses every 6 to 11 minutes on weekdays and every 10 minutes on Saturdays and public holidays. The service will use four vehicles on weekdays and two on weekends and public holidays.
Verdaguer station on L4 will close from 6 July to 30 August for accessibility improvements to the interchange with L5. Trains will continue to pass through without stopping. The €8.6 million project includes three lifts, raised platforms, new escalators, ramps in the interchange corridor and wider fixed stairs between the L4 vestibule and platforms. Staff will be present from 2 July to help passengers.
Also from 6 July to 7 September, TMB will renovate the Catalunya station corridor linking L1 and L3, so passengers will need to use street-level routes to transfer. The works will also include asbestos removal tasks, although the asbestos was not previously accessible. For updates and service information, passengers should check TMB and the Catalan government before travelling.
