Barcelona’s La Rambla is set to reopen with a public celebration on 13 and 14 February 2027, according to Barcelona City Council. The event will mark the end of a renovation project that has lasted more than four years and cost over €55 million, around €10 million more than first planned.

The council says the full works should be finished in the first quarter of 2027. The project gained pace under Mayor Jaume Collboni, who said in September 2023 that the works would be completed in 34 months. Under former mayor Ada Colau, the timetable had been expected to run for several more years.

Construction began in October 2022, starting with the section between Colom and Santa Madrona. Work is now focused on the central stretch of the promenade, up to Plaça de Catalunya.

The reopening event will be called Rambles amunt, rambles avall and is planned as a large-scale artistic and participatory festival. Visual creator Lluís Danés will lead the event, which aims to restore La Rambla as a symbol, meeting place and public space for residents and visitors.
