Barcelona City Council will install 11 new security cameras along the Barceloneta seafront, between Plaça del Mar and Marina Street, before the Sant Joan festival. The aim is to monitor access to the city’s central beaches.
Mayor Jaume Collboni said the new video surveillance system should be operational within about two weeks. That timetable would allow the cameras to be in place for the Sant Joan eve celebrations, when large crowds gather on the coast until the early hours.
Municipal sources later said it is still not certain whether the connection will be ready in time for the Sant Joan operation. Police are not relying on the cameras alone, as they already use drones and other coastal monitoring equipment during the festival.
The move is part of wider public safety work in busy areas of the city. Barcelona’s central beaches draw heavy footfall during major events, so the council says extra monitoring is a priority.
The city council will confirm the exact date the cameras go live. Once installed, they are expected to support longer-term security planning for Barcelona’s coastal areas. For more local coverage, see our news page.
