Barcelona is facing high to maximum pollen levels this week, with grasses and pine reaching peak levels, according to the Catalan Aerobiological Network (XAC).

The XAC, which has studied pollen and fungal spore levels in Catalonia since 1983, published its latest forecast for 15 to 21 June 2026. The weekly data shows significant concentrations of common allergens across the city and in other monitored parts of Catalonia.

People allergic to parietaria, oak, holm oak, pine and grasses are most likely to notice symptoms. The network monitors nine locations across Catalonia, including Barcelona, Bellaterra, Girona, Lleida, Manresa, Les Planes de Son, Roquetes-Tortosa, Tarragona and Vielha. More Catalonia news

For Barcelona, the forecast lists parietaria at level 3, high, grasses at level 4, maximum, olive at level 1, low, oak and holm oak at level 3, high, pine at level 4, maximum, plantain at level 1, low, amaranth at level 2, medium, and plane tree at level 1, low. Most trends are stable. The XAC says readers should consult its full pollen bulletin for the complete species list and expected levels.

The plants most often linked to allergies in Catalonia include cypress, plane tree, grasses and olive. Parietaria is common on walls, pavements and rocks in urban areas such as Barcelona, while plane tree pollen can cause sudden spring symptoms. Cypress pollen is most common in winter and early spring, and olive and grass pollen are both important causes of seasonal allergy symptoms.

As pollen levels remain high, the XAC says it will continue to update its forecasts weekly. The next update is expected on Friday. Readers can also check the network’s official information for the latest bulletin and monitoring details: XAC.
