Barcelona has recognised local sustainability projects through its Agenda 2030 Barcelona + Sostenible Awards, with the city council highlighting work that supports a more sustainable future for the Catalan capital.
The awards are designed to recognise organisations, businesses and individuals that are putting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into practice at local level. City officials said the initiative helps raise awareness and encourages further action on environmental protection and social equity in Barcelona.
The programme forms part of Barcelona City Council’s wider commitment to the Agenda 2030 framework, which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals covering areas such as climate action, responsible consumption and sustainable cities and communities.
By recognising local efforts, the council aims to encourage more residents and organisations to take part in these goals. The awards also point to practical work already under way in the city, including projects linked to renewable energy, waste reduction, sustainable transport and community engagement.
