The Baix Empordà County Council in Girona has unanimously approved a motion demanding a technical audit of all wastewater treatment plants in the region. This decision, made at the ordinary plenary session on 20 April, calls for better functioning and maintenance of these facilities.
The agreement, supported by all members present, specifically asks the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the Costa Brava Water Consortium for a full technical review. The council also wants a clear timetable for actions to improve water regeneration and use across the Baix Empordà.
Ensuring Water Quality and Use
Officials said the motion was prompted by a recent storm that put the Vall-llobrega wastewater treatment plant out of service. This incident highlighted concerns about the resilience and operational readiness of the region's water infrastructure.
The council's request aims to prevent future disruptions and ensure the long-term sustainability of water resources in the Baix Empordà. The audit will look at the current state of all facilities and identify necessary upgrades or maintenance work.
