Amposta Launches Training House for Construction and Rehabilitation
The Ajuntament d’Amposta is launching a new Casa d’Oficis (Training House) focused on Traditional Construction and Sustainable Rehabilitation, aimed at improving job prospects for young people aged 16 to 30. The initiative is part of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s ‘Treball als Barris’ (Work in the Neighbourhoods) programme and the broader Pla de Barris i Viles, which targets urban and social regeneration in areas with accumulated vulnerabilities. Under this project, participants will receive vocational training in traditional building techniques, rehabilitation methods, and sustainable construction practices. This will be followed by a six-month paid work contract through an alternating training and employment model, allowing them to gain hands-on experience on real renovation projects.
Combining Training and Employment
The programme is designed to address labour shortages in the construction sector while providing young residents with structured pathways into skilled employment. According to the Ajuntament, the initiative aligns with the Generalitat’s strategy to support territorial and social rebalancing in disadvantaged areas. Alderman Adam Tomàs stated that the Training House represents an opportunity to "learn while working, gain professional experience, and improve employability in a sector that needs qualified workers and offers strong career development, especially for young people."
How to Apply and Who Can Participate
The call for applications will open shortly. Interested individuals between the ages of 16 and 30 who are unemployed and registered as jobseekers can request further information from Lo Sindicat, the municipal services office in Amposta. Information is available via the Lo Sindicat website, by phone, or in person at Avinguda de la Ràpita, 43. Participants will be selected through a formal process, and the programme will include both skill development and personal support components, similar to other Casa d’Oficis projects across Catalonia, such as those in Manresa and Castelldefels, which are also funded by the Servei Públic d’Ocupació de Catalunya. This initiative follows Amposta’s recent receipt of nearly €400,000 from the Generalitat under the ‘Barris amb Futur’ pilot plan, which also includes employment opportunities in public space maintenance, street cleaning, and support for elderly residents.
