La Seu d'Urgell was the setting for a meeting of around 30 political leaders and technicians from Alt Pirineu and Aran, who gathered to discuss youth policies across the region.

The talks focused on emancipation and the need for stable resources. Participants said youth policy is complex and cuts across several areas, because young people face issues similar to the wider population at a key stage in their lives, when public support can help shape their future plans.

Funding was one of the main points on the agenda. One representative said the financing had previously been handled through the programme contract, the instrument that regulates social services funding, but that it had since moved to a subsidy model. They added that, in May, they had only just learned the grants would be resolved in June for this year.

Officials also stressed the need for cooperation between local and regional authorities. One participant said the Generalitat had been able to attend and support the meeting, and that communication between the local and country-level parts was important if policies were to take root and be implemented properly.

The discussion in La Seu d'Urgell is expected to help shape future youth policy work in Alt Pirineu and Aran, with a focus on funding, coordination and practical support for young people.
