Tarragona is set to gain a new central base for the Agents Rurals, with the long-vacant former Mossos d'Esquadra station in Les Gavarres due to be converted into the corps' headquarters. The move forms part of the Corps of Rural Agents Strategic Plan 2026 to 2030.
The building has been unused since 2011. Officials estimate the renovation will cost between €3.5 million and €4 million, with work expected to begin in mid-2028 and finish before the end of 2029.
The plan was presented at the 112 Building in Reus by the director general of the Agents Rurals, Elisenda Pérez Esteve. She said the expansion reflects the corps' growing role in emergency situations since joining the Department of Interior and Public Security.
Alongside the Tarragona headquarters, the corps plans new offices in Terres de l'Ebre, specifically in Amposta and Móra d'Ebre. These two sites will be built from scratch and are scheduled for completion by mid-2029. More details on the corps and its work are available on the news tag page.
El Vendrell is next in line for a new base. The current idea is to renovate the former police station there, although a study is under way to decide whether a full rebuild would be better. Work is due to start in 2029 and finish by the end of 2030.
Reus and Falset will also get new regional offices for Baix Camp and Priorat, respectively. Those buildings are expected to be ready by the end of 2031, with a combined budget of between €2.9 million and €3 million. The Strategic Plan 2026 to 2030 also aims to double the corps' staff before 2030 and extend working hours beyond daytime cover, subject to union talks and changes to employee agreements.
