Barcelona, Catalonia: Over 90,500 vehicles had returned to Barcelona and its metropolitan area by 3pm on Sunday, 3 May, following the May Day long weekend. This figure represents 32.3% of the 280,000 vehicles expected to return by midnight, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
The return operation saw significant traffic jams, particularly on the AP-7 motorway. Drivers faced delays of four kilometres between Cardedeu and Llinars del Vallès, and also between La Roca del Vallès and Cardedeu, both in Barcelona province. An additional three kilometres of slow-moving traffic was reported in Sant Celoni, Barcelona.
Traffic Congestion Reported
Beyond the AP-7, queues of one kilometre were also observed on the A-2 motorway near Jorba, Barcelona. These delays affected travellers making their way back into the city after the public holiday.
During the initial departure phase of the long weekend, a total of 575,651 vehicles left Barcelona and its metropolitan area. This exodus occurred between Thursday and Friday, reaching 99.3% of the SCT's projected number of departures.
