The May bank holiday weekend in Catalonia is marked by rain and clouds, with atmospheric instability continuing this Saturday and Sunday. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has issued a yellow alert, level 1 of 6, for six southern comarques until 2pm this Saturday, 2 May 2026.
These comarques are Tarragonès, Baix Camp, Priorat, Ribera d'Ebre, Baix Ebre, and Montsià. Showers are expected along the southern coast and pre-coastal areas until midday, with a possibility of rain in other western parts of Catalonia, according to Meteocat.
Rainfall will generally be light to moderate, but locally strong downpours are possible in the southern coastal and pre-coastal areas. Thunderstorms are not ruled out, and these areas could see more than 20 litres of rain accumulate in 30 minutes. The sky will also be grey, particularly in the western Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, though clearer spells are expected in the north-east.
Sunday's Weather Outlook
For Sunday, the final day of the May bank holiday, the sky will remain grey, especially during the early morning hours. After this, some clear spells are expected to develop. However, clouds will persist, keeping the sky partly to heavily overcast in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, parts of central Catalonia, the western third of the country, and the interior of the north-eastern quadrant.
The forecast for precipitation on Sunday is reduced compared to Saturday. Scattered showers are only likely in the western third of Catalonia during the morning, with a slight chance elsewhere. From midday, some light showers are expected in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and the western third, accumulating small amounts of rain. Towards the end of the day, isolated thunderstorms are possible, also in the north of the country.
