Barcelona's municipal nursery schools will hold their tie-break draw on 5 June at 11:30am at the Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona (IMEB) headquarters. This draw is a critical step for families applying for places, as it will order applications that have received the same number of points.

The draw's outcome will decide which families secure a desired place and which do not, according to Betevé. The process considers various criteria during the application period, assigning points to each child. With more applications than available places, the tie-break draw helps allocate spots. A list of applications with identical scores is created, and places are assigned in order, starting from the number drawn.

Increasing Nursery Coverage

Last academic year, the municipal nursery school network covered 66% of place applications. Barcelona City Council expects this coverage to increase to 71% of demand for the upcoming academic year. This rise is due to the incorporation of two new centres: EBM Tramuntana in Sant Andreu and EBM La Mar in Ciutat Vella.

Families can attend the public draw event in person at the IMEB assembly hall, located at Plaça d'Espanya, 5. For those unable to attend, Betevé will publish the tie-break number immediately after the draw concludes.
