Strong performance in Valls with 4d8 and 3d8

On Saturday, 10 October 2026, the Xicots de Vilafranca delivered a confident performance at the Museu Casteller diada in Valls, sharing the square with Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls and Xiquets de Reus. The event, held just after the group’s traditional offering to their patron saint, the Mare de Déu del Roser, saw the team execute a solid 5d7 in their first round, showcasing stability from the base to the top.

In the second round, they successfully loaded their 4d8 for the fourth time this season, a structure now firmly established as a benchmark for the group. They also attempted and completed the challenging 3d8, a castle they had not successfully loaded since the 2024 Tarragona Castells Competition. The performance concluded with a 7d7, the fourth time this season the group has brought the seven-level tower to the square.

The diada ended with a clean Pd5 and two Pd4s during the farewell round, marking a technically strong outing ahead of the season’s final events.

Historic all-female trunks in Bellprat on 12 October

On Monday 12 October, the Xicots participated in the 15th Diada de Castelleres – Memorial Natividad Yarza in Bellprat, a symbolic event honouring the first female mayor of Catalonia during the Republic. According to somsegarra.cat, the event celebrated women’s leadership in public life and historical memory.

The Xicots contributed to this theme by performing all their castells with fully female troncs (bases), a rare and significant display of gender representation in casteller culture. They began the first round with a secure 4d7, followed by a 5d6 and a 7d6 in the second and third rounds respectively.

The final pillar round included a Pd5 and two Pd4s, completing an event described as both technically impressive and socially meaningful. The performance underscored the growing role of women in the casteller movement.

Final rehearsals ahead of Roser diada on 24 October

The group now enters the final phase of rehearsals for the Diada del Roser, which will close their season on 24 October in Vilafranca’s Plaça de la Vila. Open rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesdays from 21:00 to 22:30 and Fridays from 22:00 to 24:00, with the colla calling for maximum participation to achieve their season goals.

President Dani Pajares and cap de colla Mireia Mata have both emphasised the importance of these final sessions in preparing for their traditional closing event, which draws on decades of local heritage.
