Sanaüja, in the Segarra region of Catalonia, is dealing with a wildfire that has spread from agricultural land into forest, according to firefighters. The fire began in a crop field and has now affected around 35 hectares of wooded land.

Emergency services have increased their response to tackle the blaze. At the scene are 25 ground crews, three helicopters and four water-bombing aircraft, with aerial resources focused on stopping the fire from advancing further into the forest.

Firefighters said efforts to keep the fire out of the wooded area were unsuccessful. The priority now is to contain the spread and protect more forest land.

Almost the whole of Segarra is currently under Level 2 of the Rural Agents' Alfa plan, which signals a high wildfire risk across the area. The dry conditions are increasing concern about rapid fire spread.
