In Vilanova de la Barca, Lleida, two drivers aged 35 and 39 were criminally charged last Monday after being caught driving at 138 km/h and 121 km/h on the C-13z, where the limit is 50 km/h, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Police said they intercepted both vehicles at about 3.33pm during a control operation. Six other drivers were also fined administratively for speeding at the same location.
The case comes after local authorities in Vilanova de la Barca raised concerns about drivers not respecting the speed limit when passing through the municipality. In response, the Mossos d'Esquadra have stepped up checks in the area.
Over the past fortnight, police controls on the same roads in the municipality have led to administrative fines for 134 drivers for excessive speed, the Mossos said.
