Police in Viladecans, in the Barcelona metropolitan area, are investigating a shooting that took place on Wednesday at about 9.30pm on Avenida Siglo XXI. Mossos d'Esquadra said no injuries were reported.
According to Catalan police sources, officers found several bullet casings when they arrived, but no one involved in the incident was at the scene. Other sources familiar with the case said the shooting followed an argument on a bar terrace.
Municipal sources said a fight took place “in front of an establishment” and that the possible perpetrators “fled when police arrived”. They added that no injuries or arrests had been recorded. The business reopened the following day.
Avenida Siglo XXI links Viladecans’ business park with the Sales neighbourhood. Sources familiar with the area said it is not usually considered a high-crime zone.
The case comes amid a run of recent firearms incidents in the Barcelona area. In Barcelona, a person was shot dead last Saturday on Calle Mineria in Sants-Montjuïc. Hours later, Guàrdia Urbana in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat arrested a person allegedly linked to another shooting on Calle Batllori in the Sant Josep neighbourhood, which also caused no injuries. Another firearms incident was reported in L'Hospitalet on 4 May, in the Torrassa neighbourhood.
Elsewhere in Catalonia, police have also investigated incidents in Sant Adrià de Besòs, where a group linked to several firearms cases since 2024 in La Mina was arrested. Mossos d'Esquadra have said retaliatory shootings have become more common. According to police data, Catalonia recorded two shootings a week last year, with seven deaths, and firearms incidents rose by 30% compared with the previous year.
