Vila-seca has increased its local police presence in La Pineda for the summer season, with 16 interim officers starting work in the coastal area. Mayor Pere Segura said it is the largest deployment of officers in the town’s history.
The extra officers will focus on anti-social behaviour and illegal street vending, known locally as top manta. The reinforcement is double the number of agents deployed in the previous summer campaign.
The mayor described the move as historic for the Vila-seca Local Police. The officers are assigned to La Pineda, a busy tourist area, to help maintain public order during the summer months.
Officials say the aim is to improve day-to-day life for residents and visitors by responding more quickly to incidents and discouraging unauthorised street sales. The stronger presence is also intended to act as a deterrent.
