A man has died following a fire at an apartment building in Vielha, Val d'Aran, on Monday morning. Another individual was taken to Val d'Aran hospital with minor smoke inhalation injuries, according to the Conselh Generau d'Aran.

Emergency services received the alert for the fire on Anglada Street at 6.15am. The deceased is a man aged between 45 and 50, who had worked in the town for many years.

Residents Displaced by Damage

The building, which houses around a dozen residents, was severely damaged by the flames. Vielha Mayor Juan Antonio Serrano told reporters that all displaced residents have been rehomed in local hotels.

In response to the tragedy, Vielha town council has declared official mourning until 12pm on Tuesday. A minute of silence will be observed on Tuesday.
