In Artesa de Lleida, a van driver was filmed making a dangerous overtake on the L-702 road, putting a cyclist at risk. The incident happened around 7.40am last Thursday, according to the camera owner.
The footage shows the van crossing a continuous white line, which means overtaking is not allowed, and moving into the path of an oncoming cyclist. The manoeuvre also failed to keep the minimum safe passing distance required by law.
The recording was made by a dash cam fitted in another vehicle, a pickup truck. The owner of the camera shared the footage with local media because of the seriousness of the traffic violation.
Incidents like this are a reminder of the risks faced by cyclists on rural roads across Catalonia. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
Authorities often use dash cam footage as evidence in traffic offence cases. Road safety campaigns regularly warn drivers not to overtake illegally, especially where cyclists are present.
