The Urgell region, located in Lleida, will not participate in the Generalitat's pilot programme to incorporate Mossos d'Esquadra officers into secondary schools. This follows the rejection of the initiative by four local centres, according to officials.

The programme aimed to place police agents within educational institutes to enhance security and foster closer ties between law enforcement and the student community. However, the centres in Urgell decided against this direct integration.

Local Coordination Continues

Despite the rejection of the pilot programme, local authorities confirmed that coordination efforts with various regional bodies will continue. Officials stated, "We will continue coordinating with the different agents in the territory, such as Health services, town councils, the regional council and, also, the security forces and bodies."

This ongoing collaboration includes health services and local government, ensuring a joined-up approach to community well-being and safety, even without the direct presence of police officers in schools. The decision by the Urgell centres highlights a preference for existing community-based coordination models over the new police integration scheme.
