Paragliding Accidents in Alt Urgell and Noguera
Emergency services responded to two separate paragliding accidents on Monday, 28 September 2026, in the comarques of Lleida. The incidents occurred hours apart in remote mountain areas, requiring helicopter evacuations. The first incident was reported at 3.21 pm in the Pujal de Cabó area of Alt Urgell, near the take-off zone in Organyà. A 27-year-old Polish paraglider fell around 500 metres from the launch site and sustained an open fracture of the tibia and fibula. The injury was classified as serious. Three teams from the Generalitat Fire Service were deployed, including the GRAE helicopter unit with a doctor from the Emergency Medical Service (SEM). The injured man was stabilised and flown directly to Hospital Arnau de Vilanova in Lleida.
Second Rescue in Camarasa
Later that afternoon, at 5.27 pm, another paraglider was injured at Tossal de Sant Cristòfol in Camarasa, in the Noguera region. The 50-year-old man reported severe back pain. Three fire service units were dispatched, including a helicopter with a SEM doctor. He was airlifted to the fire service base in Lleida and then transferred by ambulance to Hospital Arnau de Vilanova.
Both men were taken to the same hospital for treatment, underscoring the risks associated with paragliding in mountainous terrain where access is difficult and emergency response depends on air support. The incidents highlight the coordination between the Generalitat Fire Service and SEM in remote rescues.
