Thieves carried out a violent smash-and-grab raid in the early hours of Saturday, 8 August, targeting two jewellery stores at the Ànecblau shopping centre in Castelldefels, Baix Llobregat. The incident occurred at around 6:45am, when suspects drove a white Range Rover 4x4 through the mall’s entrance.
Once inside, the group switched to a smaller Fiat 500 to navigate the corridors more easily, according to the Castelldefels Local Police. They deliberately crashed the compact vehicle into the display windows of two separate jewellery outlets, quickly looted the contents and fled in the original 4x4.
Vehicle abandoned, no injuries reported
The small car used in the internal attacks was left behind at the scene, parked near one of the damaged stores. Authorities confirmed no injuries occurred during the assault, as the attack took place before opening hours and no members of the public were present.
The assault caused significant material damage to the shopping centre and targeted businesses.
Both the Local Police and Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, responded immediately. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had already escaped.
Investigation under way with forensic and CCTV review
Mossos d'Esquadra have taken over the investigation and are collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene, including samples from the impacted stores and the abandoned Fiat 500. Security camera footage from throughout the shopping centre is being reviewed for clues to identify the perpetrators and trace the getaway vehicle.
The two jewellery stores have been sealed off as part of the ongoing inquiry.
