Tortosa marked the first anniversary of firefighter Antonio Serrano’s death with a football tribute at the Josep Otero stadium on Saturday. The event brought together local people to remember him a year after he died in a Baix Ebre blaze.

The tribute included a football shirt with Serrano’s face and the number 1 where the club crest would normally appear. Organisers said, “It could not have been any other way; his face had to shine where the crest was, we wanted him to be very present.”

The match served as a public act of remembrance in Tortosa and a way to recognise Serrano’s service. It also reflected the risks faced by firefighters across Catalonia.

Antonio Serrano’s death in the Baix Ebre fire had a strong impact on the local community. The tribute was intended to keep his memory alive and to acknowledge the work of emergency services.
