In Catalonia, three men have been sentenced to four years in prison each and fined €154,000 for trafficking MDMA, hashish and cocaine in Val d'Aran, in the Lleida province. The men admitted the charges on Thursday, 11 June 2026, as part of a plea agreement between their defence teams and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecution had initially sought six-year prison terms and fines totalling more than €900,000. Under the agreement, charges linked to belonging to a criminal group were dropped, and mitigating circumstances were applied for drug addiction and undue delays, according to judicial sources.
The case began on 6 March 2024, after a preventative police check on the N-230 road at the northern exit of the Vielha tunnel. Mossos d'Esquadra officers, with support from the Canine Unit, stopped a van and found nearly a kilo of MDMA, several quantities of hashish and cutting agents. The driver was arrested at the scene.
The investigation later linked that man, described as a supplier, to two other men staying at a hostel in Vielha since late February. Police said the pair were responsible for distributing the drugs. All three men were from the Tarragona area and had travelled to Val d'Aran to enter the local drug market.
That same night, officers arrested the other two suspects at a hotel in Vielha. A search of their room uncovered more MDMA, hashish, cocaine, 301 ecstasy pills, precision scales and materials used to prepare doses. Police valued the seized drugs at about €102,000.
Following the agreement, the magistrate gave an oral sentence for a public health offence linked to trafficking substances that cause serious harm to health, as well as drug trafficking involving substances that cause harm. The ruling also orders the confiscation of the seized narcotics and related items. If the fines are not paid, each man faces 100 days in prison instead.
