Incident in La Mariola

A 16-year-old girl has been detained in Lleida’s La Mariola neighbourhood after allegedly assaulting a female officer from the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force. The incident occurred on Wednesday 14 October 2026, when officers located the teenager on Carrer del Músic Vivaldi, having escaped from a youth care centre earlier that day. Upon seeing police approach, the minor became aggressive and attempted to flee. As an officer moved to detain her for return to the facility, the girl struck the officer in the face. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting a law enforcement official.

Police Response and Medical Aftermath

The officer who was assaulted was taken to Hospital Arnau de Vilanova in Lleida with minor injuries. The attack prompted a large-scale police presence in the area, involving multiple patrol units and ARRO tactical vehicles from the Mossos d’Esquadra, alongside patrols from Lleida’s Guàrdia Urbana (municipal police). The operation aimed not only to secure the arrest but also to prevent potential retaliation from individuals connected to the minor, given the area’s history of tensions during similar interventions. Residents reported heightened police activity in the neighbourhood during the early evening.

The minor is being held as the presumed author of an offence against a public authority officer, pending further investigation.

The case remains under investigation by regional police authorities. No further details about the youth centre or the minor’s background have been released.
