In Tàrrega, around 200 striking teachers blocked the A-2 motorway for 30 minutes on Thursday morning, causing traffic disruption in both directions. The protest ran from 11am to 11.30am and led to queues towards Barcelona, according to local reports.
Mossos d'Esquadra officers had already diverted traffic heading towards Lleida. The motorway action followed an earlier protest in which teachers cut the C-14 road.
The demonstrations were part of a new day of education strikes across Ponent, Alt Pirineu and Aran in Catalonia. The action in Tàrrega then moved towards the town centre to continue.
The strike was called by several unions, including CGT, Intersindical and COS. Other organisations involved included CNT, the Catalan Education Assembly and the Ponent Area Teachers' Assembly.
The collective action was held under the slogan, 'L'educació es defensa!', which means 'Education is defended!'. For more Catalonia-wide news, see our news coverage.
