Tarragona was the focus of a refinery strike on 28 May 2026, as workers at Repsol Fuels and Asesa held a peaceful picket line at the city’s southern industrial estate.
Local reports said the scene was more festive than confrontational, with dozens of people gathered under three marquees. One was set aside for a foosball table, while music played loudly and some workers sang, drank and talked with colleagues.
The action affected all refineries across Spain, not just the Tarragona plants. Repsol Fuels, formerly known as Repsol Petróleo, and the Asesa plant were both included in the industrial action.
There were no significant incidents involving police or non-striking employees, according to the reports. The picket line remained calm throughout the day.
