Tarragona’s Mas d’Enric prison in El Catllar is among Catalonia’s prisons with the highest number of drug and mobile phone seizures, according to a report by the Marea Blava Presons association.

The report analysed interventions carried out in Catalan prisons between 2020 and 2025. It says it used official data from the Catalan Ministry of Justice. For readers following wider prison and justice coverage in Catalonia, see our news page.

The findings place Mas d’Enric among the facilities with a high volume of confiscated illicit items. The association said it reviewed the figures to assess the scale of contraband across the region’s correctional centres.

The report also points to the ongoing problem of prohibited items entering prisons despite security measures. The ministry data, as cited by the association, is used to show the pressure on prison authorities to control drugs and mobile phones inside the system.
