The Diputació de Tarragona, the provincial authority, has allocated €374,000 to support sports councils in Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre and Baix Penedès during 2026 and 2027, alongside 10 new inflatable arches for local competitions and events.

For organisers of school sport, races, walks and inclusive activities, the arches can be used to mark starts and finishes, help manage participants and improve event safety. Representatives of nine sports councils attended the handover at the Palau de la Diputació on Wednesday 29 July.

The multi-year funding call provides €187,000 in 2026 and a further €187,000 in 2027, according to reports on the announcement. The 10 personalised arches were valued at almost €18,000, or about €1,800 each.

The Diputació said the inflatable structures are intended to define competition start and finish points, give events a visible identity and support their organisation.

The equipment can be used at sports events held across the provincial area. The participating councils represented Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre and Baix Penedès, while the Unió de Consells Esportius de Catalunya, the Catalan Sports Councils Union, represented Priorat.

Provincial authority cites health and social benefits

Noemí Llauradó, president of the Diputació, attended the ceremony with Vale Pino, the provincial delegate for People and Talent and the authority's sports lead, and Pere Valls, president of the Consell Esportiu del Tarragonès.

“We want to recognise and thank the great work of the sports councils, since sport improves physical health, promotes mental wellbeing, and strengthens socialisation and values of coexistence,” Pino said.

Sports councils will be able to use the new arches at eligible events in their municipalities, including races, walks, school competitions and inclusive activities.
