Figueres City Council has reached a three-party agreement with the Generalitat and Fundació Privada Miquel that would allow the Escola d'Hostaleria building to be sold to the Generalitat. The site currently accommodates vocational courses and baccalaureate classes at Institut Olivar Gran.
For pupils and families at Institut Olivar Gran, the agreement concerns the legal ownership of the building they use. The proposed sale would place the whole property under the Generalitat, Catalonia's regional government, according to reporting by Santi Coll.
Payments to end the existing concession
Fundació Privada Miquel helped finance the school building and holds a concession over part of it. The original concession ran for 50 years, with about 34 years still remaining, the report said.
- Figueres City Council is expected to pay Fundació Privada Miquel about €850,000 to terminate the concession.
- The council's Local Government Board approved a budget modification of about €105,000 as an initial payment on the Wednesday before the report was published on 29 May 2025.
- The Generalitat is expected to pay Figueres City Council about €3.26 million to acquire the entire facility.
Municipal technicians calculated the €850,000 figure using the remaining concession period and the foundation's contribution to construction, according to the report.
Building forms part of municipal financial plan
The nearly 2,000-square-metre building was included in the municipal financial plan introduced in 2024 to improve the council's finances. The reported €3.26 million purchase price is higher than the €2.6 million cost of the original building.
