Tarragona Provincial Council has launched a new technical assistance programme for local councils across the province, with support for conserving municipal cultural heritage assets. The scheme is open to councils in Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre and Baix Penedès that own cultural property.
The assets covered include paintings, sculptures, documents, graphic works, ethnological items, scientific materials, and gold and silver work. Councils can apply through the Services Guide on the Diputació de Tarragona website.
The programme includes diagnostic studies to assess the condition of the assets and recommend suitable action. It also provides advice on preventive conservation, including registration, storage, transport and packaging.
If needed, and on the recommendation of the Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration unit, the programme can also carry out curative conservation work. This may include disinfestation, fixing, consolidation or stabilisation to stop further deterioration.
The council says the initiative is intended to help protect and value historical assets so they can be passed on to future generations. For more local coverage, see our news page.
