Tarragona, Baix Ebre, the Tarragona Provincial Council has given initial approval to a €2,822,806.36 project to improve the access road to Els Ports Natural Park. The route will join the provincial road network under the Zonal Road Plan.

The work covers nearly 15 km of road, which will be renamed T-1085. It runs from the T-342 to the Mont Caro viewpoint access in Baix Ebre. Planned improvements include resurfacing the road and restoring its original width to a minimum of 5.5 metres.

Sharp bends will be corrected for banking and widening. Drainage will also be reinforced with trafficable ditches and upgrades to existing elements, while slopes at risk of landslides will be stabilised.

Safety measures include new road signs, protection barriers and speed reduction elements in sections shared by vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Further work is planned in areas including Font del Cargol and Mirador del Portell, and a new bridge will be built at kilometre point 2+025.

The Zonal Plan aims to add 114 km of roads to the local network, including 44 km in Camp de Tarragona and 70 km in Terres de l'Ebre. The provincial plenary session on Friday also approved the rest of its agenda and began with an institutional declaration supporting improvements to the AP-7 motorway between Salou and Ulldecona.
