Tarragona was at the centre of a major anti-crime operation on Friday, as Mossos d'Esquadra carried out the 'Kanpai' operation across Camp de Tarragona. Officers made eight arrests and identified 527 people in a coordinated effort aimed at repeat offending and locating habitual criminals.
Of those arrested, five were wanted on outstanding judicial warrants and three were detained for alleged drug trafficking offences. Police also issued 36 complaints for possession of narcotics, nine for carrying prohibited weapons, and two for disrespecting authority figures.
Officers temporarily seized tools and jewellery so their origin could be checked. Road safety checks by Mossos and local police also led to 41 traffic complaints, while six drivers were found driving without a licence or with a suspended licence. Reus's Guàrdia Urbana impounded four vehicles.
The operation also led to judicial and administrative action. Mossos issued six judicial summonses, and the Policía Nacional issued seven more. Authorities inspected four establishments and found administrative irregularities, while Labour Inspection identified two employees working without contracts.
The deployment took place in Sant Salvador in Tarragona, Sant Josep Obrer in Reus, Mas del Plata in Cabra del Camp, and Pisos Planes in El Vendrell. It also included checks and interventions in nightlife areas of Reus and Calafell.
Personnel from the Àrees Bàsiques Policials of Tarragonès, Baix Penedès, Alt Camp, and Baix Camp took part, alongside local police, the Guàrdia Urbana, and the Policía Nacional. The operation combined access controls, mass identifications, inspections, and a visible police presence to put pressure on repeat offenders and execute outstanding warrants. More Catalonia news
