Traffic on the T-11 was disrupted on Sunday evening between Reus and Tarragona after two separate crashes left several people injured and forced the road to close in the Tarragona direction.
The first collision happened at 6.20pm at kilometre 6 and involved two cars carrying seven people. Four of those occupants were taken to hospital with injuries described as minor, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra, Servei Català de Trànsit and Bombers de la Generalitat.
The crash caused a queue of more than 1.5 kilometres. Around 30 minutes later, a second collision took place on the same road, about 700 metres away at kilometre 5.3 near the Misericòrdia roundabout.
Officials said the second crash also involved two cars and may have been linked to the traffic build-up from the first incident. Information on possible injuries from the second collision was not immediately available.
Emergency services, including the Mossos d'Esquadra, Servei Català de Trànsit and Bombers de la Generalitat, attended the scene and worked to clear the vehicles. Firefighters were not needed to free anyone trapped, and all seven people from the first crash got out of their vehicles without help.
The T-11 remained closed on Sunday evening while crews managed the incident and investigations continued. For ongoing traffic updates in Catalonia, readers can also follow the latest local coverage on news.
