Blanes police arrested a man on Sunday after a wildfire burned about 800 square metres of vegetation near the former SAFA bakery site, next to the Blanes to Malgrat de Mar road.
The fire started at about 2.30pm. Blanes Town Council said local police were alerted shortly after 2.15pm and went straight to the scene, where they detained a man believed to be responsible.
Four units of the Generalitat Fire Brigade and several police patrols were sent to the area. The fire was brought under control and extinguished just after 4pm.
Emergency services confirmed that the flames affected around 800 square metres of vegetation surrounding the old SAFA bakery site. The case remains under investigation.
The area has seen other recent fire responses, with both Blanes Local Police and the Fire Brigade called to fires close to Sunday’s affected spot. Authorities have not said whether those incidents are linked.
