Banyoles’ El Puig Centre, in Girona, marked its 30th anniversary on Saturday with an open day and a celebration at its facilities in Puig de la Bellacasa. The centre provides specialised care for about 100 people from the area with intellectual, physical or sensory disabilities.
Its main aim is to support social and labour integration, as well as personal autonomy. El Puig works as both an occupational centre and a special employment centre, with four main areas of activity: gardening, forestry, cleaning and handling products for local companies.
The centre’s director, Cristina Torres, said future priorities include updating the facilities, enlarging current spaces and opening new lines of work. The plans are focused on users’ well-being, needs and personal growth.
For Banyoles and the wider Girona area, the anniversary highlights the role of community services that help people take part more fully in daily life and work. The open day also gave staff, users and families a chance to mark the milestone together.
El Puig’s work sits within the wider network of local support services across Catalonia. For more local coverage, see our news page.
