Stable Weather for National Day Celebrations

Catalonia will celebrate its National Day on Friday, 11 September 2026, under largely sunny skies, following the departure of a weather front that brought heavy rain to areas including Garrotxa and Berguedà on Wednesday. Although downpours were less intense than initially feared in some alert zones, the system caused a sharp drop in temperatures across much of the region. According to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya, Friday will see a stable day with sunshine dominating, despite some low clouds along the northern half of the coast and in parts of the pre-coastal area. High, thin clouds may briefly veil the sky, but increasing sunlight is expected from midday onward. A few lingering clouds around Montseny could bring isolated light showers, but no widespread rain is forecast.

Mild Temperature Rise After Cool Spell

Temperatures will rise slightly on Friday, particularly the morning minimums, though the cooler feel will persist due to the recent drop, up to 10°C in some areas, between Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 29°C across most of the territory. In the Ebro Valley, readings may reach 31°C to 32°C in places.

This stability will continue into the weekend as an anticyclone builds over western Iberia, reinforcing atmospheric stability.

Weekend Outlook: Sun with Late Afternoon Clouds

The improving conditions follow a notably cooler Thursday, when morning temperatures dipped below 15°C in many inland areas and near 5°C in the Pyrenees, with patchy frosts recorded at high altitudes. Coastal areas began Thursday more mildly, around 19°C to 20°C, but warmed to highs between 24°C and 28°C, reaching up to 30°C in spots.
