Protecció Civil de la Generalitat has activated the Inuncat flood plan pre-alert due to forecasts of strong thunderstorms across northern Catalonia this Sunday afternoon. The heavy rainfall is expected to affect a dozen counties in the Alt Pirineu i Aran, Central Catalonia, and Girona regions.

Forecasters predict that downpours could exceed 20 litres per square metre in just half an hour. The specific counties under alert include Alta Ribagorça, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Solsonès, Berguedà, Osona, Lluçanès, Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Selva.

Weather Advisory Details

The intense rain is expected to start from midday and continue until the evening. Localised hail or hailstones may accompany the downpours, according to Protecció Civil. Officials are advising residents to exercise caution, particularly when driving, and to reconsider any planned outdoor activities during this period.

This pre-alert aims to ensure that local authorities and emergency services are prepared for potential flooding or other storm-related incidents. The affected areas are known for their mountainous terrain, which can be more susceptible to flash floods during heavy rainfall events.

Residents in the specified counties should stay informed about weather updates and follow any instructions issued by emergency services. The situation will be monitored closely throughout the day.
